I always get blisters when I put some type of new shoe on my foot. Is there anyway to prevent this or at least minimize any pain in breaking in new skate boots?

I skated for about an hour yesterday with my new skates and got a small blister on the back of my ankle. Today I'll wear gym socks that have the thick band just above the ankle bone, hopefully that helps. The skates are great, the wheels don't mar the floor, though the stoppers do a bit. It was great to have a whole floor to myself, no kids to dodge!

For now you want to get ones that are a 78A-80A durometer, such as Sure Grip Motion, Kryptonic's Route 65's or Hyper Rollo. For indoor "soft" wheels (sport courts etc.) we will be recommending an 88A duromer and the only one made (in that durometer)is the Radar "Flat Out" wheels.

There are many idea's on how to break in a boot. The best way to do this is to use painters tape (the blue stuff) and tape off the area where you are being pinched or blistering. You then want to go to your local cobbler (shoe repair shop) and ask them to "soften" those areas. They will do that with heat and a stretching tool. In the meantime, use band-aids and ace bandages to to cover the trouble spots and minimize the break-in period.

There are also small pads you can use to attach to the inde of your boots. Look for those things at the cobbler shop or shoe stores.

You may want to change out the black and gray stops for clear or white ones to stop any marks from showing up and that is something that we really haven't spoken much about. Glad you mentioned it!

Phil will cover durometer at the practice as well as tons of other informatiopn to make your heads spin!!!

Thanks for the ideas, I just remembered I have some shoe stretchers at home.

How often do we use the stoppers? I don't use them to stop, I just tried it out to see what it did to the floor. (They are waxing the gym floor on Friday, so I can tear it up til then!)
